F C Connecticut Win Division D Men's Recreation League Championship Double Overtime
(Stamford, CT) - On Monday, March 27, 2006, FC Connecticut won the Stamford, Connecticut Division D Men's Recreation League Championship. It was a hard fought battle, ending up tied at 6 apiece after regulation. Each team tallied a goal in the first overtime period. This lead to a dramatic goal with a minute left in the second overtime. The team was able to hold on a secure the league championship in its first season in the league.
After completing the regular season undefeated and winning the championship, the team was poised to do the same in the playoff. The club was determined not to be denied. As he has done all season, Fabian Cano, lead the team on a magnificent run through three games to capture the championship. It was a stellar effort by each and every members of the team.
This is FC Connecticut first championship since it's inception as a club last year as a member of the Amateur Soccer League of Connecticut. This win was especially sweet after a difficult outdoor season in 2005. Team President Tom Finn said that "this was a sweet win for the club, hopefully, our club in the Men's Recreation E Division can also bring home some hardware on Friday night at Scoffield Middle School with a victory or two in the playoffs!"
